2021 McLaren 600 LT
Information
The McLaren 600 LT remains one of the most important supercars of its era, a performance milestone born through the thoughtful distillation of McLaren’s racing DNA into a road car. It bridges the motorsport heritage and modern automotive engineering, marking the brand’s commitment to lightweight construction, dynamic precision and driver-focused design.
To understand the 600 LT, it helps to appreciate McLaren’s Longtail “LT” philosophy. The term originated with the McLaren F1 GTR “Longtail” race car, a heavily modified competition variant of the legendary F1 that dominated GT racing in the late 90’s. The iconic extended rear bodywork enhanced high-speed stability and aerodynamic efficiency yielding multiple wins and further entrenching McLaren’s reputation for performance engineering. This heritage was revived in McLaren’s modern road cars beginning with the 675LT, launched in 2015 as an extreme version of the 650S and celebrated for its raw track focus.
The 600 LT was unveiled at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, it became the fourth modern McLaren to carry the Longtail name and the first in the Sports Series. Its emergence marked a key moment extending the LT ethos into a different segment of McLarens Portfolio.
McLaren conceived the 600 LT as the ultimate expression of the Sports Series, a track focused road car with everyday supercar usability and uncompromising track performance and it represents a key chapter in the evolution of modern supercars.
EVO – “With the 600LT this restraint has been removed and you feel as if you are gaining access to the Sports Series’ raw ingredients. There’s no hint of vagueness, of squidge or imprecision, instead everything the 600LT does is ruthlessly, but delightfully, transparent and true.” *****
TOP GEAR – “The most accurate and agile supercar on sale today? I think there’s a real argument for that being the case. Where the Ferrari 488 Pista feels almost artificially sharpened with its hyper-sensitive steering, here’s a car that picks a corner apart with steely-eyed precision, that exhibits amazing balance and clarity.” 9/10
AUTOCAR – “No one really does steering feel better than McLaren at the moment, and the 600LT is one of Woking’s most communicative models. A triumph, for sure.”
