2022 Rolls Royce Dawn Black Badge
Information

Rolls Royce first used the “Dawn” name in 1949, attached to a limited-production drophead coupe that emphasized elegance and exclusivity.

Fast forward to 2015, Rolls Royce revived the name with the modern Dawn, a four-seat convertible derived from the Wraith coupe.

Unlike many convertibles that compromise comfort for design, the Dawn was engineered to deliver the fully uncompromised Rolls Royce experience with the roof down. Its fabric roof could open in near silence in 22 seconds even while moving at low speeds, reinforcing the brand’s obsession with refinement.

In 2016 Rolls-Royce introduced the Black Badge sub brand as a more rebellious, performance oriented interpretation to complement their traditional lineup. Black Badge signalled a shift toward a younger, more dynamic clientele.

Following the Wraith and Ghost, the Dawn Black Badge transformed the serene cruiser into something with a sharper edge… a darker expression of luxury.

The Dawn Black Badge retains the unmistakable silhouette of the standard Dawn but introduces a more assertive aesthetic. Chrome elements are replaced with high-gloss black finishes, including the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy, which takes on a darker, more enigmatic form.

Under the hood, the 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 receives a power boost, delivering over 590 horsepower. More importantly, the car’s throttle response, gearbox mapping, and suspension are recalibrated to provide a more engaging driving experience without sacrificing the “magic carpet ride” Rolls-Royce is known for.

Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in contrast. Carbon fibre and bold colour accents replace traditional wood veneers, showcasing a departure from classic understatement toward a more modern sports-lux expression.

The Dawn Black Badge merges over a century of heritage with a contemporary edge, appealing to those who want tradition, but on their own terms. For a brand once defined solely by quiet restraint this evolution was a statement.

Goodwood.com“It’s just a joy to drive this car, from beginning to end. Few cars truly deserve the full five-star review, but the Dawn has always been one of them. It is undoubtedly the world’s most luxurious convertible, but is also possibly the finest to drive.”
